From the 7th day of Durga Puja (Maha Saptami) on 29 September 2025, all schools, colleges, government and public officers, Banks remain closed till Dussehra on 2nd October 2025. Significance of Durga Puja 2025

The Durga Puja commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasur (the demon in the form of a Buffalo). It symbolises the Trump of good over evil and the divine power of the feminine. According to the Hindu mythology, goddess Durga was created by the Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva to defeat Mahishasur who wants to rule in the universe. Sasthi (Day 6)

The main Pooja begins from the Shashti (6th day) of Durga Puja. On Shashthi, the idol of Durga Maa is unveiled in the ceremony called bodhon. From these days, devotees can see the face of the goddess for the first time. From this day, people start playing Dhakies that maintain Vibe of Durga Puja. Dhaki is a type of drum that is deeply inherited in Bengali culture.

Saptami (day 7)

Saptami aur maha saptami falls on 29 September 2025 on Monday. From this day people start visiting the pooja Pandal with their family, and friends. On Maha Saptami, the main ritual, Navapatrika Puja performed in which the nine planets are worshipped including the banana tree. The banana tree are bathed and draped with the red saree border. This represent the nine form of Durga the devotees of Durga fast on this day.

Ashtami (day 8)

Ashtami 2025 is on 30 September. This is very important day of Durga Puja 2025. On this day Goddess Durga killed Mahishasur.

Navami (Day 9)

The Mahanavami marks the final day of intense worship and ritual. On Navami Grand mahaarti are performed. On this day, young girl are worshipped as embodiments of Goddess Durga. On the last 45 minutes of Ashtami and before 45 minutes of Navami animal is sacrificed to represent victory over Mahishasur.

Vijaydashmi (the last day)

Vijayadashmi is also called Dussehra. Vijaydashmi 2025 falls on 2 October 2025. This day signifies that the Goddess return to her celestial body. This is the day of joy and emotion. On Vijayadashmi, married women place Sindoor Khela, and the idol of Durga is immersed in water.
