The word Dhanteras comes from the Sanskrit word, ‘Dhan’ means wealth and ‘Teras’ means 13th day. According to Hindu mythology on the day of Dhanteras, Goddess Lakshmi Lord Dhanvantri came out of the ocean during the churning of the milky sea, who is the god of wealth. Lord Dhanvantari is the god of medicine and Ayurveda. Since Lord Dhanvantari appeared on the 13th day of the Kartika month, people celebrated Dhanteras to worship him and pray for good health and wealth.
