Christmas is the festival that celebrates the birth of Jesus. According to the Bible, more than 2000 years ago, before Jesus was born, a prophet told the Jewish people that God would send a messiah to guide and help them. Christians believe that Jesus was the promised Messiah.

Jesus’ mother was a young woman named Mary. Who lived in Nazareth were going to marry a man named Joseph, who was a carpenter. She was engaged to Joseph. One day, Joseph found that Mary was going to have a baby and felt very confused and sad. Then an Angel named Gabriel from God came to Joseph in a dream and told her that the baby was a very special child- ‘ The Son of God’. The Angel said Joseph should name the baby ‘ Jesus’ and take care of him like his own son.

At the time, the land was ruled by the Romans, and they ordered everyone to go back to their hometown to register for the census. So Joseph and Mary travel to Bethlehem. When they reached Bethlehem, all the inns (places that provide food and shelter for travellers) were full and they could not find a place to stay. Finally, a kind person let them stay in a stable, a place where animals were kept. That night, Mary gave birth to a baby Jesus and kept him in a feeding box of animals because there was no bed.

At that time, the Angel appeared and told some shepherds in the nearby fields that the newborn king had been born. The Shepherds went to see baby Jesus and were filled with joy. Other visitors wear some wise men and kings who saw a bright star in the sky and followed it to find Jesus and give the child expensive gifts of gold, Frankincense and myrrh (a precious herb), honoring the newborn king.
