National Testing Agency (NTA) will released the UGC NET 2024 notification for the December session on the official website. The official website of UGC net is ugcnet.nta.ac.in. The candidate can apply for UGC NET 2024 from November 2024. To apply online for NTA UGC NET 2024 candidates need to pay the application fee of Rs. 1150 for General category, Rs. 600 for the OBC category and Rs. 325 for the Reserve category candidates. NTA UGC NET exam will be conducted for 83 subjects. It is a Computer-based test, the NET exam comprised of paper 1 and paper 2, conducted in a single three-hour session. To be eligible for JRF and assistant processor candidates have to appear in both paper. There is no negative marking in NTA UGC NET 2024.
What is UGC NET
The UGC NET (University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test) is a national Level Examination. The exam is conducted in India to determine eligibility for candidates for only ‘Assistant Professor’ or both ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ posts in Indian universities and colleges. The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grant Commission (UGC). Until June 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted NET exam on behalf of UGC.

Also, candidates can apply for PHD. However, the candidate qualifying for PhD will not be eligible to get any Stipends from the government to complete their PhD.
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): qualifying candidates for JRF can apply for the position of assistant professor and research scholar in there respective postgraduate discipline at IITs, Universities and other national Institutions. The JRF-qualifying candidate will receive a Fellowship Stipend for 5 years to support their research. The research scholar will be paid a stipend of 35,000 (for initial 2 years) and 42,000 (from the 3rd year) to complete their research in specific field. JRF qualified Candidate can also apply for the post of assistant professor along with a career as a research scholar.

NTA UGC NET December Eligibility Criteria 2024
The eligibility criteria for NTA UGC NET is Candidate must have master’s degree or equivalent from a recognised University with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks. 50% for SC/ST and other Reserve categories. The age limit for junior research fellowship (JRF) is 30 years with relaxation for Reserve categories. There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professors. Education Qualification
- Candidates must have completed Master’s degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by the UGC
- Candidates need to have secured at least 55% marks in their post-graduation. For candidates belonging to the OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender categories, the required marks are 50%.
- Candidates who have appeared for final year examination and whose result is still awaited, are also eligible to apply for the test.
- Candidates who have qualified the UGC-NET/JRF exam or the CSIR-NET/JRF exam are exempted from appearing in the NET.
- Candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) before June 1, 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET.
